When family dinner turns into a political battlefield, nobody leaves unscathed.
From the pen of Australia’s most celebrated playwright comes a biting, laugh-out-loud drama that proves politics is always personal. Family Values is a witty, contemporary snapshot of Australia today—where love and loyalty are tested by clashing beliefs, and dinner with the family can feel like a courtroom showdown.
Don’t miss this must-see production—brimming with humour, passion, and the kind of home truths that only Williamson can deliver.
Synopsis:
When retired federal judge Roger is surprised on birthday by his wife and three adult children, celebration quickly turns into confrontation. Old wounds and clashing worldviews surface—immigration policy, human rights, career compromises, and family loyalty collide at the dinner table. In true David Williamson fashion, Family Values is razor-sharp, funny, and uncomfortably honest about the fault lines in modern Australian life.
Characters:
Roger Collins – a retired judge, aged 70, and the family patriarch.
Sue – his wife, devoted and long committed to holding the family together.
Lisa – their daughter, a left-wing activist.
Michael – their son, a born-again Christian.
Emily – another daughter, a Border Force officer.
Noeline – Emily’s partner, also a Border Force ship captain.
Saba Nazari – a 27-year-old Iranian refugee on the run from Nauru.
